I have worked for Warrigal Home Services in the Illawarra for just over four years. I was looking for work after being a stay-at-home mum and wanted to care for people, and a friend recommended working in Home Services. I called Warrigal and was welcomed in for an interview

I like coming to work and getting the opportunity to change someone’s day. We go into their homes and are able to make their whole day by a simple conversation acknowledging them as their own person. That makes my day. I also love hearing about the different lives our older people have lived and how we are all so different. 

After a couple of years of working as a care worker, I then took on a position of admin assistant in the office. I work part-time as a care worker and also part time in the office, I enjoy the change between the two positions and being able to develop new skills. 

I am supported by an understanding and kind team. I was confident in starting to work on my own after receiving supported buddy shifts from experienced workers. I have been fortunate enough to receive and be paid to do training, including my Administer and Monitor Medication Course. 

I have been able to work hours that work around my home life and am able to discuss a change to my hours if needed. 

I love my job and it makes me feel like I make a difference in someone’s life.
