Celebrating National Volunteer Week at Warrigal!

Warrigal recently celebrated National Volunteer Week with two special Service Award events, to acknowledge the excellent contributions of our Northern and Southern volunteers.

Last week, Warrigal acknowledged the outstanding contributions of their volunteers across NSW and the ACT with two special Service Award events. The events were held as part of our National Volunteer Week celebrations, and served as an excellent opportunity to acknowledge our community of volunteers, and recognise the difference they make to the lives of our older people every day.

The first event, held last Tuesday at Goulburn Soldiers Club, welcomed over 80 volunteers from across Warrigal’s southern locations, including Goulburn, Bundanoon, Canberra and Queanbeyan. Attendees enjoyed a delicious lunch with great conversation, as they watched their fellow volunteers receive awards for their numerous years of service.

Warrigal CEO, Jenni Hutchins, joined by Board Member Sophie Ray, and Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman, addressed the crowd and explained the importance of volunteering to Warrigal and our local communities.

“This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, ‘Connecting Communities’, resonates perfectly with our Warrigal vision of a world where older people feel known, loved, and connected.”

She continued, “Through every conversation you share, every helping hand you extend, and every smile you offer, you are the vital link that transforms our vision into reality.”

Last Thursday, volunteers from our Northern Warrigal locations celebrated with a lunch at Warilla Bowling Club. The gloomy weather outside did not affect attendees, as smiles and laughter were seen all around. Guests enjoyed tea and coffee, lunch and dessert, while watching on as their fellow volunteers received service awards and other accolades. A special mention is deserved for the wonderful Alan Cluff, former Chairman of the Board and one of Warrigal’s longest-serving volunteers, who was recognised for 40 years of service.

Jenni Hutchins, Warrigal CEO, shared her gratitude to our volunteers in her address.

“As we celebrate this special week, please know that your impact is immeasurable. You are more than volunteers – you are community builders who bring our vision to life every day.”

Jenni was also joined by Warrigal Board Member, Helen Newman, and Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, who shared their appreciation for volunteers within our community.

While many of the volunteers were formally recognised for their lengths of service, Jenni reiterated at these events that “every volunteer is a part of the fabric of Warrigal”, and should be proud of their selfless contributions to improve the lives of our older people.

We would also like to congratulate both the Southern and Northern winners of the prestigious 2025 Norm Rowland Award, celebrating the dedication and generosity of our volunteers who go above and beyond. Kathryn (volunteer from Warrigal Hughes) and Alana (volunteer from Warrigal Mt Warrigal) were announced as this year’s winners, acknowledged for their exceptional efforts.

Warrigal is proud to have a team of such dedicated volunteers, some achieving up to 45 years of service! If you’re interested in learning more about how to join us as a volunteer, explore our webpage here.
