For over 10 years, Helen McNeill has been a driving force of kindness, connection, and community spirit at Warrigal Bundanoon.
For over 10 years, Helen McNeill has been a driving force of kindness, connection, and community spirit at Warrigal Bundanoon. Not only does Helen coordinate and run the Bundanoon Café with a team of volunteers two days a week, but she does so while also caring for her husband Ian, a much-loved resident at the home.
The café, thanks to Helen’s energy and warmth, has grown into a vibrant social hub, a place where residents gather, and everyone feels welcome. Helen’s joyful presence and inclusive spirit are the magic behind the café’s ‘sociable buzz’.
But Helen’s impact extends far beyond coffee and cakes. She delivers bunches of flowers, picked from her own garden in Exeter, to residents each week, bringing comfort and joy through simple, heartfelt moments, and is always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear.
Whether it’s supporting others through companionship, sharing stories from her life, or baking delicious treats for the café, Helen does it all with flair, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
Helen is a true gem of Warrigal Bundanoon and incredibly lucky to have her as part of our volunteer family.

Volunteering is a very rewarding experience. It has given me the opportunity to make a difference in my community, meet new people and hopefully make a positive impact in people’s lives.
