Kylie, Registered Nurse & Clinical Nurse Educator

I know every resident, their family, their doctors, because I have the time to make true connections with them and offer a more personal style of support compared to a hospital environment.

The thing I love most about aged care is that we can see the direct positive impact we make to residents lives and their families. It’s very rewarding to be able to make clinical decisions that benefit them, from when residents are well to when they require palliative care. Working at Warrigal, I know I’m surrounded by a strong and experienced team. Warrigal is a great company, it’s growing, and it provides a lot of support with its experienced clinical advisory support team. The executives are very approachable and genuinely want to help you. I also like that at Warrigal you have flexibility to pursue a career personalised to you. I’ve had the opportunity to experience different roles, including Deputy Residential Services Manager and IPC lead, and Clinical Nurse Educator. During my years at Warrigal, I’ve got married, had three kids, worked part-time, full-time, in an educator role, as a Registered Nurse, Infection Control Lead and now in management roles – I’ve been able to grow with my career and have a good personal work-life balance.

In my leadership role, as an RN I get to use my clinical skills to assist our residents with complex clinical and palliative needs. Caring for older people uses skills from a whole range of areas within Registered Nursing, and are in the position to help residents make the best decision for their care.

I’ve worked in different countries and many different areas within the hospitals, but I will always choose aged care because of the rewarding nature of the role. It’s not a fast clinical turnover of patients, you get the opportunity to get to know and support the residents so well.
