Warrigal Announces Chair Succession

Warrigal announced that its Board intends to appoint Sophie Ray as Chair of the Warrigal Board to succeed Wyn Janssen from the conclusion of Warrigal's 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held on 27 October 2025.

Warrigal announced that its Board intends to appoint Sophie Ray as Chair of the Warrigal Board to succeed Wyn Janssen from the conclusion of Warrigal’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held on 27 October 2025.

Stepping down of Wyn Janssen

Wyn joined the Warrigal Board in 1997 and has served as Chair since 2016, his stepping down from the Board will mark the end of a 28-year contribution that has helped shape Warrigal into one of the foremost leaders in the aged care sector.

Reflecting on his time at Warrigal, Wyn said it had been the greatest privilege of his career.

“Warrigal has grown substantially over these years, but what has always stood out to me are the people, the staff, volunteers, directors, and company members who live out our vision of creating a world where older people feel known, loved and connected. I leave with confidence that Warrigal is in capable hands and will continue to thrive into the future.”

During his tenure, Wyn has overseen significant growth across Warrigal’s residential aged care, retirement living, and home care services, along with major developments including Warrigal Shell Cove. He also helped guide the organisation through the challenges of the Royal Commission into Aged Care, the introduction of new quality standards, sector-wide reforms, and COVID-19, always keeping Warrigal’s purpose and people at the forefront.

Appointment of Sophie Ray

Sophie is a Non-Executive Director with extensive governance experience across not-for-profit, private, and public companies, with a particular focus on human services. She currently serves as Independent Chair of Peak Care Equipment Pty Ltd and Chair of the Shoalhaven Education Fund. She has previously chaired RSL NSW, NAWO (National Association of Women in Operations), ROCC for Women, and held directorships with GO2 People (ASX:GO2), Big Fat Smile, and Settlement Services International (SSl).

Earlier in her career, Sophie spent fifteen years as a commercial and regulatory lawyer at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Australia and the UK. For the last eighteen years, she and her husband have owned a business in the Shoalhaven, where they live with their two daughters.

A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute of Australia, Ms Ray also brings international perspective, having lived and/or worked in the UK, China, France, Uganda, and Sydney.

Wyn said he was delighted Sophie would succeed him as Chair.

“Sophie brings a wealth of experience, insight, and compassion. Her career has been defined by purpose and impact, which aligns closely with Warrigal’s values. I know she will guide Warrigal with both wisdom and innovation in the years ahead.”
