Cristie’s Experience with Warrigal

What supported you to choose to work with Warrigal?
I was drawn to Warrigal because of its strong reputation for resident-centred care and its clear commitment to dignity, respect and community. During the interview process, I could genuinely feel the warmth and teamwork among staff. It felt like a place where nurses are valued and supported, not just as clinicians but as people.

How would you describe the support you’ve received since joining?
The support has been consistent and encouraging. From orientation through to day-to-day practice, the clinical management teams have been approachable and responsive. I’ve always felt comfortable asking questions or seeking guidance, which makes a big difference in building confidence.

Role, Growth & Day-to-Day Impact

Describe what a typical day looks like for you?
Every day is different, which is what I love. A typical shift includes clinical assessments, medication management, care planning, liaising with families and GPs, and supporting care staff. There’s also a strong focus on monitoring changes in residents’ conditions and ensuring their care remains personalised. Amid all of that, I always try to make time for meaningful conversations with residents, those moments are often the most important.

How has this workplace supported your professional growth at this stage of your career?
Warrigal has supported my growth by encouraging ongoing education and giving me opportunities to take on additional responsibilities. I’ve been able to strengthen my clinical decision-making skills and leadership abilities while feeling supported, not overwhelmed.

What learning or development opportunities have been most valuable to you?
Ongoing training in areas such as dementia care, palliative care, wound management and clinical governance has been incredibly valuable. Access to internal education sessions and mentorship has also helped me stay current and confident in my practice.

Are there specific clinical areas you’ve developed special expertise in?
I’ve developed particular confidence in Aged care and palliative care. Supporting residents and families through complex or end-of-life journeys requires both clinical skill and compassion, and that balance is something I’ve worked hard to strengthen.

Resident Care & Purpose

What do you love most about caring for our residents and families?
The relationships. In aged care, you’re not just treating a condition — you’re caring for a person with a lifetime of stories and experiences. Building trust with residents and supporting families through important transitions is incredibly meaningful. Knowing you can bring comfort, reassurance and dignity to someone’s day is what makes this role so rewarding.

Culture, Leadership & Support

How would you describe the teamwork and collaboration at your location?
Teamwork is one of our biggest strengths. Nurses, care staff, allied health professionals and management work closely together. There’s open communication and a shared focus on doing what’s best for residents. Everyone is willing to step in and support one another.

How do you support or mentor newer nurses on your team?
I try to lead by example — being approachable, patient and open to questions. I involve newer nurses in clinical discussions and decision-making so they can build confidence. I also share practical tips and encourage reflection, because learning in aged care is ongoing and collaborative.
