Warrigal presents ‘Celebrate Harmony Week for Older People’

Warrigal, in partnership with the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (MCCI), invites the Canberra community to attend a special Harmony Week celebration that will showcase cultural diversity and inclusion for older people.

To celebrate Harmony Week this year, Warrigal, in partnership with the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (MCCI), is set to host a special multicultural event for older people and their loved ones. This free event will recognise diverse and inclusive efforts to support older people in our community. For the first time ever, Warrigal is hosting this event in the Canberra region, making it an extra-special celebration for our older people in the Canberra community. The event will be held on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Hellenic Club Woden.

Harmony Week is an annual, national celebration that recognises the diversity of culture in this country, with the aim of fostering inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for all Australians, regardless of their background. Warrigal is hosting this event to provide an opportunity for the community to celebrate the beautiful diverse cultures in the Canberra region, learn about the multicultural services and support available for older people, and taste the flavours of the world. The event is open to everyone, particularly older people and their families, aged care professionals, and anyone passionate about the future of multiculturalism in aged care.

The highlights of the event include:

  • An interview with a Warrigal resident to share their personal experience
  • An engaging presentation led by MCCI, focused on their services and connection within the community
  • Cultural performances showcasing the diverse backgrounds of Warrigal staff and members of the Canberra community
  • An address from Warrigal speaker Muhammad, who will share his experience working with a residential care home, village and staff from diverse cultures.
  • A taste of different foods from around the world, including Spanish, Greek, French, Italian and local Aboriginal cuisine.

The event will feature a traditional Fijian performance by Warrigal’s PALM (Pacific Australia Labour Mobility) staff members, a cultural dance by local community group Wiradjuri Echoes, and exciting entertainment from Canberra’s Prosperous Dragon and Lion Dance Association, offering a rich cultural experience for attendees.

Guests will also enjoy light refreshments featuring a variety of multicultural cuisines, while also having the opportunity to engage with local community groups, aged care providers, and leaders in an open and welcoming environment.
