History
Warrigal’s First “Rest Home”
Located at the very top of Mt Warrigal and enjoying panoramic views of the Illawarra, our Warrigal Mt Warrigal Residential Care Home offers quality care with a homely, personalised feel.
The care home was established in 1967, after Warrigal’s founder, Norm Rowland (pictured top left), discovered the need for safe and affordable aged care services in the Illawarra region.
The staff consisted entirely of volunteers, was funded wholly by community donations, and the land for the building was leased from Shellharbour Council. Mrs Enid Baker (pictured bottom left) served as the first matron for Warrigal at this location, which at the time was referred to as a 10-bed “rest home”.
Warrigal Mt Warrigal now has 40 beds, and provides a warm and supportive environment for residents to age peacefully. Keep reading to learn more about the services and activities that are offered at the home, offered by our knowledgeable and passionate team members.
